  • Q. What is NetPeek?
    A. NetPeek is software that is capable of scanning a network device (such as routers, printers and computers) listing information about the device such as ethernet address and attempt to determine the type of device based on host profiling.

  • Q. What is host profiling?
    A. By using pieces of information from a device we are able to put together a "profile" for a device. Comparing this profile with known profiles, we can make an educated guess as to the device type.

  • Q. How much does it cost to register my copy of NetPeek?
    A. Registration is $40 USD.

  • Q. What do I get by registering my copy of NetPeek?
    A. An unregistered version of NetPeek is limited to scanning 500 devices or for a duration of 30 days - which ever comes first. The registered version is not limited by the number of devices scanned and does not expire after the 30 day trial period. Registered users also receive free upgrades for minor releases.

  • Q. What devices can NetPeek identify?
    A. Netpeek is capable of identifying almost all devices to some level. However, not all devices will be identified down to the OS version.

  • Q. How do I register my copy of NetPeek?
    A. Click here for registration information. Registration is very flexible, accepting orders via the Internet, phone or fax. Payments can be made in USD or Euro, credit card, purchase order, etc.

  • Q. Is there a way to export the data collected to a spreadsheet?
    A. Yes. The file "NetPeek.cache" is actually a comma separated value formated text (CSV) file which will import directly into most popular spreadsheet applications.

  • Q. Sometimes the different fields remain blank. Does that mean that the information could not be obtained?
    A. Some fields will remain blank if they do not pertain to a host. For example, all of the Microsoft fields will remain blank for all non-Microsoft hosts, the FTP Server field will remain blank if there is no FTP server running, the ethernet address will remain blank if it cannot be obtained.

  • Q. What FTP servers does NetPeek 3.00 support?
    A. NetPeek will detect any FTP server running on the standard FTP port 21.

  • Q. I submitted an unknown FTP server some time ago. When will this new entry be available?
    A. Not all unknown FTP submissions are implemented into NetPeek. The FTP server banner must uniquely identify the FTP server version information in order to identify the host type within reason. If the FTP server returns information that is too vague, then this submission will not be added.

  • Q. How many licenses do I need?
    A. Unlike similar programs which end up costing thousands of dollars, you are not required to install software on each station being scanned. You are required to purchase one registration license for each system the NetPeek software is installed on.
